1 / 5

On February 5, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Jun Yamada.

Ararat Mirzoyan has noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations the ties stably and dynamically develop between Armenia and Japan. According to the Head of the RA legislative body, the opening of the Embassies in Tokyo in 2010 and in Yerevan in 2015 has given new impetus to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

The Speaker of the National Assembly has touched upon the development of the parliamentary relations and in that context has noted that at this moment Parliamentary Friendship Group is being formed: numerous deputies of the National Assembly are interested in the friendship with Japan.

The Head of the RA Parliament expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for the assistance shown in different spheres within the frameworks of the development support and implemented programmes.

Conveying the congratulations by the Speakers of the National Diet (House of Representatives) and the House of Councillors on being elected in the position of the Speaker of the RA National Assembly, the Ambassador also highly assessed the enlivening of the parliamentary relations between the two countries in recent years.

Ambassador Yamada was interested in the ratification process of the Agreement on the Investment Liberalization, Encouragement and Mutual Protection between the Republic of Armenia and Japan signed in February 2018 by the National Assembly, in response to which Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of the quick use of the Agreement and expressed hope that the discussion of the Agreement would be organized in the National Assembly within the closest terms.

The sides referred to the numerous items on the advancement of the Armenian-Japanese joint agenda, and exchanged thoughts on the necessary steps in the expansion of cooperation in different formats.
